Scott Cawthon

Scott Cawthon is an American video game designer, developer, writer, and animator famous for his Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise. For young gamers, Scott Cawthon’s work has had a big impact. His indie game has found incredible success and earned a cult following.

The video game series and the media franchise often called as “FNaF” was established, developed, designed, and published by Scott Cawthon.

Scott Cawthon’s Early Life

Cawthon was born in Houston, Texas, USA on June 04, 1978 in a Christian family. However, Cawthon moved from Houston to Salado where he currently lives with his wife and six children.

Cawthon’s Game Career

Cawthon’s game design, development, and animation career started back in 1990. Still young, he released his first game with the title “Doofas” while in a live stream. However, this game was not taken seriously, but later started to be considered as the demo of Ultimate Custom Night. Cathon’s first official games were released in 2000. After that, he joined Hope Animation and started creating animations for Christian Media.

Cawthon’s games were all published to scottgames.com, however from August 2022, the website was down and slow to load the games on his site.

In 2007, Cawthon uploaded the first part of The Pilgrim’s Progress to his YouTube channel which eventually was watched by a growing following of gamers. Spurred by the popularity of The Pilgrim’s Progress, Cawthon developed many games: The Desolate Hope, Sit N’ Survive, Chipper and Sons Lumber Co. He submitted some games to Steam Greenlight. However, his game Chipper and Sons Lumber Co. got a lot of criticism from players who criticized it over the game’s characters. These characters moved and interacted with each other similarly to animatronics.

While at first deterred and nearly halting the game’s development completely, Cawthon ultimately chose to utilize the animatronic-like characters for his potential benefit. He built on that with Five Nights at Freddy’s. Furthermore, his novel Five Nights at Freddy’s: The Silver Eyes’ also gained popularity and earned him a good reputation with fans. He followed that with an official guidebook was also published to the series titled ‘The Freddy Files’
